What is the average performance of solar panels?

Solar panels are usually classified according to their efficiency and power, with approximate values per square meter:

  • Low efficiency: between 150 and 250 W/m² (14 % – 17 % efficiency).

  • Average output: between 250 and 350 W/m², with an efficiency of around 18% – 19%.

  • High efficiency: up to 400 W/m², reaching an efficiency of 23%. Naturgy

Although high-performance panels feature superior materials and technologies, their higher cost leads many installations to opt for medium-performance panels, which offer about 20% efficiency at a more competitive price.

How is the actual yield calculated?

It is determined by dividing the energy actually generated by the incident solar energy, multiplying the result by 100 to obtain a percentage.

And if we talk in figures?

Imagine a panel with a rated power of 400 W:

  • In winter, with about 6-7 hours of effective sunshine, you could get about 2.4 – 2.8 kWh per day.

  • In summer, with about 10 hours of solar radiation, the figure could rise to 4 kWh per day.
